Designer Leah Chalfen brings her unique brand of sophisticated, American whimsy to classic millinery techniques. Stylish women from across the globe: hip-hopping "honeys" and haute couture patrons, debutantes and grande dames, covet her timeless designs. Never one to conform to trends, Leah's designs are favored by the fashion-industry's top stylists and editors because they transcend era, event and outfit so completely. Leah's headpieces have accompanied fashion and bridal-fashion editorials shot by top fashion photography legends, including Irving Penn. Leah C. Couture Millinery has been featured in the pages of prestigious publications such as Vogue, Town & Country, Bride's and Modern Bride. Following three years spent living and working in Italy and Spain after her graduation from Temple University, Leah studied Millinery at New York City's famed Fashion Institute of Technology. She later completed two years of "graduate study" under master milliner Patricia Underwood and trained with the head milliner of the Metropolitan Opera's costume department. In the beginning, Leah C. Couture Millinery was housed in a charming, West Village brownstone, where clients were offered warm service and a private, personalized shopping experience. By 2005, the company had outgrown its original headquarters and moved uptown to the Chelsea-neighborhood space that now serves as atelier, showroom and shop. Despite the change in location, the intimacy so important to the Leah C experience continues to be cultivated. Seeking to restore the prominence of the headpiece as an American accessory, Leah has modified the scale of headwear, focusing specifically on feather creations. Leah's designs are beautifully bold and distinctly elegant. They are statement pieces created for the woman with an established, well-honed sense of style who uses every occasion to express it. Currently, Leah is teaching Millinery at New York City's Parson's School of Design. Highlighting Leah C.'s wide range of appeal, her innovative designs have been in publications like Vogue, Elle, Town & Country, Oprah and Latina Magazine. She has also been embraced by alternative publications such as Stop Smiling, Spoon, Flux and City NY. Her designs have been worn by the likes of Nicole Kidman, Rosario Dawson, Queen Latifah, Erykah Badu, and Adrian Brody. |
